The Immigration Department has successfully recaptured 10 undocumented migrants who escaped from the Bidor Temporary Immigration Centre on Thursday night. Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Juson confirmed this positive development and stated that the ongoing operation aims to detain the remaining 120 immigrants until all of them are apprehended.
As of 7 am today, two individuals were detained at the Batu Melintang Mosque, where they sought water from congregants. The locals promptly informed the police, leading to their recapture. Another arrest was reported in the Sementa Orang Asli Village, all within a 12-kilometre radius, as the escaped immigrants began emerging to find food.
Ruslin expressed satisfaction with the progress of the operation, highlighting the collaborative efforts involving the police, General Operations Force, Air Operations Force, Criminal Investigation Department, and the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela). The ongoing search operation is concentrated in settlements of foreign nationals, mosques, vacant houses, surau, and Orang Asli villages around Tapah.
Notably, the escaped detainees may seek refuge in illegal settlements around Tapah, prompting a call to the public to share information if they encounter any suspicious individuals requesting food and drinks. The escaped detainees, now dispersed and not moving in large groups, pose a challenge in tracking them down.
To intensify the search, Ruslin has directed immigration agencies nationwide to conduct large-scale operations, expanding the target and radius of the search. Tomorrow, an additional 100 personnel will report to the Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot to assist in the operation.
Addressing the status of the depot, Ruslin mentioned its complete clearance. Around 11 pm on the incident day, 100 female detainees were relocated to depots in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan, and Kemayan, Johor.
The incident on Thursday night involved a total of 131 undocumented immigrants fleeing from the male block of the Bidor temporary depot. Unfortunately, one of them reportedly died in a road accident. The majority of those who fled were Rohingya detainees (115), followed by 15 Myanmar nationals and one individual from Bangladesh. The immigration authorities remain committed to ensuring the apprehension of all escaped detainees, maintaining public safety and security.
