The Immigration Department has successfully apprehended 10 undocumented migrants who escaped from the Bidor Temporary Immigration Centre on Thursday night. The director-general, Datuk Ruslin Juson, confirmed the recapture, emphasizing that the ongoing operation aims to track down the remaining 120 immigrants until all are apprehended.
Early this morning, two individuals seeking water at the Batu Melintang Mosque were detained by locals who promptly informed the police, leading to their recapture. Additionally, another arrest was made in the Sementa Orang Asli Village, indicating positive progress in the operation. Ruslin highlighted the cooperation with various law enforcement agencies, including the police, General Operations Force, Air Operations Force, Criminal Investigation Department, and the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).
The search operation is now focused on settlements of foreign nationals, mosques, vacant houses, surau, and Orang Asli villages around Tapah. Ruslin urged the public to share information about suspicious individuals seeking food and drinks. He emphasized that the escaped detainees, now dispersed and not moving in large groups, may seek help from acquaintances and relatives in illegal settlements around Tapah.
In response to the incident, Ruslin ordered immigration agencies across the country to conduct large-scale operations, expanding the target and search radius. Tomorrow, an additional 100 personnel will report to the Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot to assist in the operation.
Regarding the depot’s operation, Ruslin reported its complete clearance, stating that around 11 pm the previous day, 100 female detainees were relocated to depots in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan, and Kemayan, Johor.
The Thursday night incident involved a total of 131 undocumented immigrants fleeing from the male block of the Bidor temporary depot, with one reported casualty in a road accident. The majority were Rohingya detainees (115), followed by 15 Myanmar nationals and one from Bangladesh. The ongoing efforts signify a collaborative attempt to address and rectify the situation swiftly and comprehensively.
