MERCEDES-BENZ Malaysia has previewed the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, model code X540, with two GLC 300 4Matic Electric variants available for pre-booking from an estimated RM389,000.

Pre-bookings are already open, with the first 100 customers receiving passes to an upcoming Mercedes-AMG F1 Party.

Malaysia will receive the GLC 300 4Matic Electric Avantgarde from an estimated RM389,000 and the GLC 300 4Matic Electric AMG Line Plus from RM399,000.

Both use the same dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 310kW, equivalent to 421PS, and 800Nm. The GLC Electric accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 210km/h.

An 85kWh usable lithium-ion battery provides between 523km and 616km of WLTP range depending on specification.

Its 800V architecture enables DC charging at up to 320kW, with a 10-80% charge taking 22 minutes. Mercedes-Benz says as much as 255km of WLTP range can be added in 10 minutes under suitable conditions.

AC charging is supported at up to 22kW, allowing a full charge to take approximately four hours.

The rear electric drive unit uses a two-speed gearbox, with a short 11:1 first ratio intended to improve acceleration, towing performance and urban efficiency. A taller 5:1 second gear takes over at higher speeds for better motorway efficiency.

The front motor provides the 4Matic all-wheel-drive capability but can be disconnected when not required to reduce energy consumption.

Compared with the combustion-engined GLC, the electric X540 has an 80mm longer wheelbase at 2,972mm. Mercedes-Benz claims front legroom increases by 13mm, while rear passengers gain another 47mm.

Boot capacity stands at 570 litres, expanding to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded. There is also a sizeable 128-litre frunk under the bonnet.

The GLC Electric also debuts Mercedes-Benz’s latest illuminated grille design. Its front panel features 942 backlit polycarbonate dots, an illuminated central star and an illuminated outer contour.

Digital Light headlights sit on either side, while the rear uses two-piece lights incorporating illuminated Mercedes-Benz star motifs.

The Avantgarde rides on 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, while the AMG Line Plus gets 21-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels, an AMG spoiler lip, red seat belts and a sportier cabin treatment.

Inside, the headline feature is the 39.1-inch seamless MBUX Hyperscreen stretching across virtually the entire dashboard. Mercedes-Benz says it is the largest continuous display unit the company has fitted to a production vehicle.

The fourth-generation MBUX runs on MB.OS and incorporates generative AI from Microsoft and Google, Google Maps-based navigation and the latest MBUX Virtual Assistant.

Another highlight is the Sky Control panoramic roof. Its glass can switch between transparent and opaque states and is split into nine individually controllable segments. At night, 162 illuminated stars integrated into the glass can match the cabin’s 64-colour ambient lighting.

Mercedes-Benz has also brought back more physical controls on the steering wheel following customer feedback, including a rocker switch for Distronic and the speed limiter, as well as a roller for volume adjustment.

Both Malaysian variants come with leather upholstery, heated front seats, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, dual wireless phone chargers, 5G connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an integrated dashcam, Transparent Bonnet and MB.Drive Assist.
