EU border system triples passport control times for UK passengers

  • Post-Brexit EU border checks, known as the Entry-Exit System (EES), have nearly tripled passport control waiting times for British travellers.
  • Ivan Bassato, chief aviation officer at Rome's Fiumicino airport, stated that processing times for Britons have increased from seven to 20 minutes.
  • Bassato highlighted the urgent need to fix certain aspects of the EES, despite some improvements from self-service biometric kiosks.
  • Wizz Air UK advised British passengers to arrive three hours before their flights from European airports due to anticipated long queues caused by the new system.
  • Conversely, France's Ministry of the Interior praised the EES, reporting it has processed over 110 million entries and exits, prevented over 44,000 entry refusals, and has not caused major congestion at French transport hubs.
