Several surviving veterans of the war were present for the ceremony, receiving warm applause as they entered the chamber to hear speeches marking the historic milestone.

Parliament President Roberta Metsola drew a powerful link to today’s war in Ukraine, declaring, "Once again war has returned to our continent." Her words echoed through the chamber, reminding Europe of its shared duty to uphold peace.

Belgian WWII veteran Robert Chot urged vigilance: “Peace is never certain, let's ensure it lasts.”

The ceremony served as both a tribute and a warning.
