LONDON, Sept 1 — Everton have agreed to sign United States striker Folarin Balogun from Monaco in a deal worth £40 million (rm219 million), according to reports on Monday.

If the transfer is completed before Tuesday’s 2200 GMT deadline, the 25-year-old will return to the Premier League three years after he left Arsenal for Monaco in a £35 million deal.

Everton will aim to agree personal terms and complete a medical before officially announcing Balogun’s move.

Balogun caught the eye with his performances for the US at the recent World Cup and also at the centre of major controversy.

He was banned for a last-16 clash with Belgium, incurred for a red card against Bosnia in the previous round, but the suspension was removed after an intervention by US president Donald Trump.

Born in New York, Balogun came through Arsenal’s youth ranks after moving to London as a child.

He has scored 31 goals in 91 appearances for Monaco and featured for the club in the Champions League. — AFP
