All about the KPop Demon Hunters pop-up in Singapore

Details about the Singapore location, tickets and event have yet to be revealed. But based on the Seoul schedule, visitors can look forward to getting their hands on official merchandise spanning apparel, mini CD key rings, posters, photo books, and Derpy and Sussie plush toys.

There will also be many themed zones featuring HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys. “How It’s Done” will see guests fighting demons alongside the girl group, while “Soda Pop” spotlights the boyband’s catchy song. Look for Derpy — the supernatural tiger from the flick — inside “Rumi’s Room”, before going for a stroll on the rooftops of the “Hanok”.

Don’t forget to seal the Honmoon before you leave, with a rendition of ‘Golden’. You’ll get to redeem a Derpy balloon upon completing the various missions. There’s even a “Wapen Maker” section where you can customise your bags and keyrings with themed patches.

Instagrammable and TikTok-worthy moments will be in abundance, of course. The KPop Demon Hunters pop-up in Singapore is expected to showcase vibrant, immersive installations depicting characters and scenes from the animated movie, along with photo booths for guests to take pictures with HUNTR/X.

The KPop Demon Hunters phenomenon

The popular animated movie has become the undisputed hit of the year since its release in late August.

It has smashed records and received numerous accolades, such as becoming the most-watched movie in Netflix history with over 325.1 million views (at the time of writing), topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart with ‘Golden’ for eight weeks (before Taylor Swift’s The Fate of Ophelia took over), and having its soundtrack go platinum — an award given by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) when an album has sold or streamed at least 1,000,000 units.

‘Golden’ remains at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 ranking, while the soundtrack is also in second place on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

On November 8, KPop Demon Hunters added another feather to its cap with five Grammy nominations. ‘Golden’ is a contender for Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Remixed Song, while the film’s soundtrack is in the running for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

Its phenomenal success has also propelled its singers and voice actors into super-stardom, particularly EJAE, who is the singing voice for lead character Rumi and a co-writer for ‘Golden’. A former K-pop trainee turned songwriter and producer, the talented vocalist is finally getting her flowers.

A sequel is already in the pipeline for 2029, with Netflix reportedly giving Sony Pictures a USD 15 million bonus for the first movie. The film has also spawned several collaborations with brands such as Hasbro, Mattel, Nongshim, Funko Pop and Samsung, and even has a dedicated section in Seoul’s Everland theme park open till December 31.
