Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is committed to strengthening its halal industry and has the potential to become a regional halal hub, State Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said.
Speaking at the launch of the two-day Jelajah Halal Malaysia programme at the Sabah International Convention Centre on Saturday, he said the initiative attracted more than 500 participants.
Halal Development Corporation Berhad Chairman Prof Dr Mohd Afandi Salleh also pledged continued strategic cooperation to further develop the sector.
Malaysia has certified about 9,000 halal companies, including 420 in Sabah, with the Jelajah Halal Malaysia programme set to continue in Kedah and Terengganu.
