Former long-serving Freiburg coach Christian Streich will work as TV pundit for German broadcaster ZDF during the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico in June and July.

He will make his debut during the opening match between Mexico and South Africa on June 11, ZDF said in a statement on Tuesday.

"I'm looking forward to this entirely new role and to preparing thoroughly for the task. My goal is to explain the individual teams' game strategies in a way that is clear and easy for viewers to understand," Streich said.

ZDF sporting director said: "With Christian Streich, our World Cup team is gaining a unique coach who is known for speaking his mind."

Streich stepped down in 2024 after 14 years as Freibrug coach and more than two decades overall at the club.
