Decorated former India coach Surinder Mahajan, who also remained with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and UT Chandigarh Sports Department, has now opened his own coaching centre and academy in Zirakpur. Mahajan, joint secretary of Badminton Association of India (BAI) and senior vice-president (Administration), Chandigarh Badminton Association (CBA), has accompanied Indian teams to various international tournaments.
Mahajan also has the honour of nurturing many international and national-level badminton players from Chandigarh. He was recently appointed as the member of Administrator’s Advisory Council for Sports, and earlier held coaching centres at Panjab University and Sector 38 sports complex.
“The new centre has nine badminton courts, and will be supervised by a fleet of BAI-affiliated coaches. The coaching format includes beginners, intermediate and advance level, and this is one of the biggest academies of the north having facilities likes cushioned HOVA courts, gym and sitting arrangements,” said Mahajan.
He further added, “We are also bringing various scholarships for the state-ranking players, focussing on developing the sport across the northern region from Chandigarh.”
