Former Rajya Sabha MP and former National Commission for Minorities chairman Tarlochan Singh has written to the Delhi Chief Minister, expressing disappointment over the government’s reported failure to consider renaming Metro stations after prominent Sikh religious sites in the Capital.

In his letter, Singh said that even during the second meeting on the issue, the committee did not consider proposals to name the nearest Metro stations after Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib and Gurdwara Moti Bagh Sahib.

“It is surprising that the historic importance, religious identity and tourist appeal of all three gurdwaras have been completely ignored,” Singh wrote.

Highlighting their significance, Singh said the gurdwaras attract a large number of domestic and international tourists every year. Referring to his tenure as former Managing Director of Delhi Tourism and later Adviser (Tourism), Government of India, he said these shrines remain among Delhi’s most visited religious sites.
