Former Newcastle United defender John Anderson admits PSG's equaliser last night was tough to take.

Kylian Mbappe converted an injury-time penalty to rescue a Champions League point for the hosts.

Anderson told BBC Sport: "I thought the Gordon one [foul on Achraf Hakimi] was more of a penalty if I'm perfectly honest.

"Saying that, I thought until giving the penalty, the referee was absolutely excellent tonight. I thought he let things go, he made the right calls, I thought he had a big game.

"It bounced off his [Livramento's] hand and hit his chest, nothing you can do about it. What is he supposed to do? Up to that point the referee was excellent and we were excellent.

"The one criticism you would have was the fact we were boxed in all the time and when we did get out we didn't keep the ball. Pope's made a couple of real top saves, they had a couple of big chances but it's all about putting the ball in the back of the net and they weren't able to do that.

"It's tough on everybody. There are a lot of tired legs out there and tired bodies. They worked their socks off. We would have taken a point beforehand, but it's the manner that the equaliser came about and the timing of the equaliser as well that's disappointing. For the equaliser to come quite late is a little bit galling."
