BUTTERWORTH - Former Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Professor P. Ramasamy is set to face charges in the Butterworth Sessions Court on Wednesday related to alleged abuse of power.
Ramasamy's lawyer, Shamsher Singh Thind confirmed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will bring his client to the Sessions Court in Butterworth.
He will be charged under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.
"The MACC has not disclosed the details of the charges for tomorrow,” Shamsher Singh said.
Convictions under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009 carry a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of at least five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
The charges were believed to be linked to Ramasamy’s previous role as head of the Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB).
