Ex-winners Frankfurt, Wolfsburg out of Women's Champions League

PARIS, France —  Saint-Germain and Inter Milan dumped former winners Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg out of the Women's Champions League on Wednesday in dramatic final qualifying round ties.

Sakina Karchaoui scored a brace as PSG bagged four goals in extra-time against 10-player Frankfurt with the game -- and the tie -- level after 90 minutes.

Trailing 1-0 in Paris, the Germans were reduced to 10 players on 66 minutes after Australia forward Hayley Raso was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Yet Swede Rebecka Blomqvist equalised 10 minutes later to force extra-time, with the tie locked at 2-2 on aggregate.

But Frankfurt ran out of steam in the extra period as PSG romped to a 6-2 aggregate victory.

A late goal from Elisa Polli had forced extra-time in Milan as Inter bounced back from losing the first leg in Germany 2-0 to match that score over 90 minutes.

Pole Weronika Arasniewicz restored Wolfsburg's advantage but an injury time goal at the end of extra-time by Bosnian Marija Milinkovic sent the tie to penalties.

Mara Alber missed for the Germans and Ivana notched the winner for Inter as Wolfsburg, winners in 2013 and 2014, were beaten 5-4 on penalties after the tie finished 3-3.

Elsewhere, 2021 runners up Chelsea claimed a spot in the league stage, which starts on September 22, by hammering Real Sociedad 6-2 while Switzerland's Servette and Denmark's Koge also qualified.

The draw for the 18-team league stage takes place on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.
