SANDAKAN: Residents here can look forward to exciting activities during the “Jelajah Wira Madani: Maritim Disantuni” programme, organised by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at the Sandakan Maritime Zone Office compound on Saturday (Sept 27).

Running from 7am to 5pm, the event is expected to attract participation from various government agencies, the local community, and members of the public.

Programme highlights include an aerobics session, cultural dance performances, traditional folk games, a special demonstration by the MMEA’s Special Task and Rescue Team (STAR), as well as dragon boat and decorated boat shows. There will also be Rahmah sales, offering affordable goods to the public.

Visitors can also take part in health-related activities such as free medical screenings and blood donation campaigns, or visit the Open Ship aboard MMEA vessel KM Banggi.

Adding to the festive atmosphere will be a variety of traditional games, including giant foot steps, “rampanau” (bamboo stilt walking), coconut bowling, sack races, blowpipe contests, “congkak” and “batu seremban”.

A broad range of government service exhibitions will be on site, featuring participation from MMEA, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Prisons Department, National Registration Department (JPN), Sandakan Health Department, Public Service Department (JPA), Immigration Department, Road Transport Department (JPJ), Sandakan Hospital and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

Services on offer include safety equipment displays, fine payments, licence renewals, children’s immunisation, senior citizen and PWD registration, and Rahmah product promotions.

The Jelajah Wira Madani programme aims to bring the maritime enforcement agency closer to the public while promoting cooperation across various stakeholders under the Malaysia Madani initiative.

In conjunction with the event, the MMEA has imposed a temporary drone flight restriction in central Sandakan from 7am to 5pm on Sept 27.
