KUCHING: The gold medals haul by Sarawak youngsters at this year’s Sukma Games reflects the efforts of the Sarawak Government in nurturing a generation that excels in studies as well as sports.

Having set up six free international secondary schools with great sports facilities plus free tertiary education using English, many Sarawak families residing in Sabah have already seized the opportunity and more are expected to follow suit.

Sabah has a sizeable Sarawak community who have established varied businesses upon coming here following a mutual agreement between then chief ministers Tun Patinggi Taib Mahmud and Tan Sri Harris Salleh during the Berjaya administration.

However, Sarawak never reciprocated and its leaders later said it was a blessing that Taib did not, saying the State would otherwise have been unable to stem the inflow of “Projek IC” holders from Sabah.
