Expansion, sustainability tagged as Robinsons Land wins awards

PROPERTY developer Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) said its mall business was continuing to benefit from provincial expansion and sustainability initiatives after three of its shopping centers were recognized at the Retail Asia Awards 2026 in Singapore.

The company said its Robinsons Malls portfolio received awards for three developments: Robinsons Magnolia, Robinsons Pagadian and Robinsons Malolos.

It highlighted the performance of newer malls and the growing contribution of regional markets to its retail operations.

The mall operator currently manages 57 malls nationwide with about 1.7 million square meters of gross leasable space, a significant portion of which is located outside Metro Manila.

Among its recent projects is Robinsons Pagadian in Zamboanga del Sur, which opened in April 2025. The company said the mall recorded about 160,000 visitors on its opening day and achieved near-full occupancy among tenants.

In Bulacan, Robinsons Malolos was said to have positioned itself as a retail and transport hub serving communities in Central Luzon while hosting employment and community events.

Robinsons Land executives said the developments reflected the company's strategy of expanding into growth areas beyond major metropolitan centers, where rising consumer spending and urbanization continue to support retail demand.

The company also underscored sustainability measures being implemented across its mall network.

Robinsons Magnolia, part of the portfolio of RL Commercial REIT Inc., operates on renewable energy through a dedicated supply agreement and incorporates energy-saving features such as natural lighting systems.

The mall also runs waste management and recycling programs and provides facilities that support low-carbon transportation, including electric vehicle charging stations and bicycle parking.

The recognition from Retail Asia comes as mall operators continue to adapt to changing consumer preferences by combining retail offerings with sustainability initiatives and community-focused developments.

Industry players have increasingly expanded into provincial markets in recent years, banking on population growth, improving infrastructure and rising household incomes outside the National Capital Region.

Robinsons Land said it remained focused on developing retail destinations that support local economic activity while generating long-term value for shareholders.

The company shares slipped P0.12 or 0.73 percent, to close at P16.40 each on Friday. NAZYLEN JOY MABANGLO
