KUNAK: Kunak Assemblyman Datuk Seri Anil Sandhu has urged the Public Works Department (PWD), Water Department and related contractors to expedite the final utility installation works at the new Kunak Library building so that it can begin operations as soon as possible.
He said the delay in opening the more than RM6 million facility not only reflected poorly on the agencies involved but also raised questions about organisational efficiency.
“The building was completed in September 2025 and should already be operational. The public is also asking why the new library has yet to open,” he said after visiting the premises, recently, with Kunak PWD engineer Siti Asmah Munir and representatives from the Kunak Water Department.
Anil, who is also Assistant Minister of Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy, said he was prepared to meet the top management of the relevant agencies to obtain further clarification on the actual progress of several outstanding final-stage processes.
During the visit, the library’s fascia signage had yet to be installed on either the building or its main entrance.
“Whatever the reason for the delay, I hope the new library building can begin operations by August this year,” he said.
The new Kunak Library building was initiated before the Covid-19 pandemic, experienced delays during that period and resumed after the Movement Control Order (MCO) was fully lifted.
The existing Kunak Library currently operates from a commercial premises in Kunak town.
