Expert calls for urgent action to make PH global AI hub

MANILA, Philippines—Technology experts called for immediate action to establish the Philippines as the global epicenter for artificial intelligence (AI).

On Saturday, President and CEO of Beyond AI, Ron Vergara, said the Philippines needed to build its own "super AI" and support the construction of big data centers.

When asked how the Philippine AI industry was coping with the planned Pax Silica initiative, Vergara said there was a need for a “gigantic data center” in the country. However, he also noted that the Philippines was far from ready for the planned initiative.

“We better have the people that are certified to work in these facilities. Because if not, what are they going to do? They're going to try to get a bunch of engineers from all over the world to come here and work for less money,” he says.

Beyond AI was launched on Saturday in Makati City, sponsored by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc.
