An explosion killed three people, including two traffic police officers, in Moscow on Wednesday, Russian investigators said.

The blast occurred as officers on patrol approached a man described as behaving suspiciously.

An explosive device detonated at close range, killing the officers and another person nearby.

The Investigative Committee said investigators and forensic experts were working at the scene to establish how the device was triggered and who was responsible. The area was secured as evidence was collected.
