Kota Kinabalu: A former policeman, currently serving jail sentence on various offences, was on Friday sentenced to another 36 months’ jail and one stroke of the cane for extortion, two years ago.

Nizam Jaluddin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun.

Nizam admitted to having deliberately committed extortion by causing fear to one Rudy Ramlee that he would take action on the latter if he does not give him RM500 cash at 7pm on Sept 2020 at a roadside of Jalan Keramat, Lorong Bunga Bawang here.

The charge under Section 384 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years or fine or whipping or with any two of such punishments, on conviction.

The court ordered Nizam to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Oct 4, last year.

Nizam is presently serving sentence for disposing of stolen items, having stolen property, theft and taking syabu.

In another case, a civil servant was discharged and acquitted of 10 counts of cheating, amounting to RM55,000.

Jessica made the decision on the case of Noredayati Amat Sah during the mention of her case Friday.

Earlier, the complainant in the case, who was present in court, informed the court that he wished to withdraw the case and that he had lodged a police report to retract his previous report regarding the case.

When asked by the prosecution about his reason for withdrawing the case, the complainant said that Noredayati had already paid back all the money involved in the charges.

The prosecution then applied for the charges to be withdrawn and granted by the court.

Noredayati on Oct 28, 2021 claimed trial on the charges of allegedly cheating one Hasmadi Jamawi by deceiving him that she can manage the supply of services in the Veterinary Services Department, which does not exist.

The charges stated that her alleged trick induced Hasmadi to hand over RM9,000, RM1,000, RM9,000, RM5,500, RM3,000, RM4,500, RM9,000, RM3,000, RM10,000 and RM1,000 between Nov 25, Nov 27, Nov 30, Dec 5, Dec 8 and Dec 21, 2020 by putting them into her bank account. The offence was allegedly committed here between Nov 25, 2020 and Dec 21, the same year.

Each count under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one year and 10 years and with whipping and liability of a fine on conviction.

Noredayati was represented by counsels Rayhan Adliza Batuah and Nurshalilah Fauzan Mailin.

Deputy public prosecutors Nurul Shafeerah and DK Afiqah Alya prosecuted.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man pleaded guilty to removing stolen property.

However, the court adjourned to Nov 4 for sentencing pending the accused’s social report being prepared.

Mohd Redzwan Syahfiqqi Abdullah was accused of removing a pair of stolen shoes and slippers belonging to one Suhairol Suging at 11.05am on Oct 12 at Tanjung Aru.

The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years and fine, on conviction.

Pending the date, Redzwan was offered bail at RM1,000 undeposited in one surety.

Inspector Albert Basiri prosecuted.
