F1 next heads to a fan-favourite venue in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix and round 10 of the 2025 season.

Oscar Piastri extended his championship lead with victory in Barcelona last time out, finishing ahead of McLaren teammate Lando Norris. The gap at the top of the standings is 10 points.

Yet the Spanish GP ended in controversy with Max Verstappen’s clash with George Russell and his subsequent 10-second time penalty. The Dutchman is now just one penalty point away from a race ban, and will have to keep it clean for the next two races.

Lewis Hamilton will be eyeing a major improvement after a difficult race in Spain, though his teammate Charles Leclerc did finish on the podium for the second consecutive race.

Lando Norris on McLaren's 'tricky' Friday

17:14

,

Kieran Jackson

"A tricky day, probably one of the trickiest we have had this year.

“A little bit off the pace compared to the others and it maybe didn't look it at the end, but difficult to put a lap together and be consistent.

"We need to get the car in a better place. The track is difficult but it has definitely been our worst Friday of the year so far.

"Not in terms of pace but in terms of being able to put it together and most tricky. We're not miles away, just need to make it a little bit easier to drive. We're still in a good position, it's close. Mercedes seem very, very quick, just as they were last year.”

FIA suspends race steward from Canadian Grand Prix after media comments surface

16:45

,

Kieran Jackson

The FIA has suspended driver steward Derek Warwick from the Canadian Grand Prix after comments he made in the media.

The 70-year-old ex-Formula One driver’s suspension follows remarks circulated by a gambling platform following last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix about a variety of matters, including a 10-second penalty given to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

On Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, Warwick said: “I think he deserves that eighth world title, but it’s not going to happen this year. I think if it carries on the way it is at the minute, I suspect he’s already thinking of stopping.”

The FIA confirmed that Enrique Bernoldi, who raced for the Arrows Formula One team, will replace Warwick in Montreal.

Martin Brundle on Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur's future:

16:30

,

Kieran Jackson

“It would be nuts to change Fred Vasseur, I don’t think he’s the problem. Who would you replace him with? A new person comes in, you start working in silos, it’s the last thing Ferrari need to do.

“Fred has a lot of experience, he can handle the pressure. This is not a Premier League club where you keep changing the managers until you eventually find one, it would be nuts.”

George Russell admits ‘surprise’ Max Verstappen accepted blame for Barcelona crash

14:00

,

Kieran Jackson

Speaking in Montreal, Mercedes’ Russell, who finished fourth in Barcelona, said: “If he (Verstappen) gets to 12 points it (a ban) wouldn’t be unjust.

“At the end of the day, that’s why the penalty points are there. If you keep driving recklessly you will accumulate points, and get punished with a race ban. You’ve got it in your own hands and it doesn’t go without risk.

“He was trying to run me off the road. I don’t think he was trying to intentionally crash into me. He wanted to just sort of scare me a bit, but he just misjudged it. Again, it wasn’t going to scare me, it was just all a bit surprising.

“I’m not looking for an apology. His actions cost him and they benefited me. So I should be almost thanking him. Obviously I’d be feeling very differently if it took me out of the race. But it is good to see that he took accountability. I was a bit surprised about that.”

Lando Norris on prospect of Max Verstappen being banned:

03:00

Kieran Jackson

“I don’t think anything really changes,” Norris said. “You don’t know what he’s going to do. So at this point, I’m trying to think of what to do differently. It’s the same as normal.

“I think he’s still going to fight. He’s further behind in the points.

“If anything, he’s still going to fight more.”
