Lance Stroll has picked up a bit of support among fans after criticising F1’s new regulations, saying he enjoyed testing F3 cars during the five-week break far more than racing under the current rules.
It’s been a tough season for Aston Martin, and Stroll hasn’t held back in expressing his dissatisfaction with the 2026 rule changes.
The shift to a 50/50 split between electrical and thermal energy has frustrated many drivers and fans, who feel it has taken away from the racing quality.
Stroll isn’t usually a fan favourite, but his recent comments have resonated with some on social media, who shared their thoughts in response.
Lance Stroll voices more frustration with F1’s 2026 rules after Formula 3 test
Speaking to the media on Thursday afternoon in Miami, Stroll mentioned he had been taking part in Formula 3 tests alongside his racing activities in the GT World Challenge.
Asked about those F3 sessions, he told reporters via The Race: “It’s like 1000 times more fun and better to drive, because you have your right foot, you give what you want, and you get what you want.
“Even the weight of the car, you know? Something, 550, 650 kilos, it’s just a lot nicer than 750-800+ kilos. Things like that.”
He was also asked about recent changes made by the FIA to technical regulations before the Miami Grand Prix. While hopeful that things might improve over time, Stroll was clear that he still feels Formula One has a long way to go before it gets back on track.
Lance Stroll’s growing support among fans over his views on the 2026 F1 rules
Stroll’s comments found a warmer reception on social media, with many fans saying that while they haven’t always been supporters of his, they appreciated where he was coming from this time.
One fan wrote, “I know Stroll can be a bit polarising, but I do love that he generally doesn’t give a f— and is willing to speak his mind whenever and wherever.”
Another echoed those thoughts, adding, “To be honest, Lance has grown on me – this kind of ‘no f’s given’ attitude makes me like him a lot more.”
Fans also pointed out that Stroll’s unique position within F1 gives him more freedom to speak openly. With his father owning the Aston Martin team, there isn’t the same risk to his seat that other drivers face.
One fan said: “I’m happy he’s using his qualified immunity to speak the truth,” while another added: “I like this Stroll. Dude is making good use of his untouchable status.”
Another user said: “I did not have ‘Agreeing with Lance Stroll’s statement’ on my F1 bingo card.”
A final post even grouped Stroll with some of the sport’s most vocal personalities. The comment read: “Verstappen, Alonso, Hamilton and Stroll are the only drivers who don’t have to mince their words.”
