SHAH ALAM, Feb 13 - A factory manager and 11 engineers were among 94 foreign workers arrested by the Immigration Department during a raid at a factory yesterday under Ops Mahir.

Selangor Immigration director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said that during the 11.30am raid, the manager and engineers attempted to hide and flee to avoid inspection, along with more than 300 other foreign workers.

The operation, involving 26 Immigration officers, was conducted after public reports of foreign workers at the factory since last year.

“All the foreign workers were sorting out batteries according to categories during the raid, while the manager and engineers were working in the management offices.

“Inspections were carried out on 340 foreign nationals, 94 of whom, aged 22 to 62, will be sent to the Semenyih Immigration Depot for further action,” he said in a statement today.

Khairrul added that among the offences detected were holding only social visit passes and failing to produce any valid work permits under the employer’s name.
