KUALA LUMPUR — Wanita Keadilan chief Fadhlina Sidek has described the Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) between the Madani Government and MPs from Bersatu, MUDA and among independents as a positive step towards more mature politics.

She said political differences should not prevent lawmakers from finding common ground to advance institutional reforms and the country’s development agenda.

“In a democracy, differences in positions are natural. However, such differences should not prevent us from finding common ground to advance institutional reforms and the country’s development agenda,” she said in a statement today.

The agreement was signed at Parliament House today by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, several Bersatu MPs, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of MUDA and other opposition lawmakers, pledging support for the passage of Budget 2027.

Other signatories included Bersatu vice-presidents Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, as well as MPs Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (Langkawi), Datuk Ali Biju (Saratok), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).

Beyond securing support for Budget 2027, the agreement covers key government initiatives, including proposed reforms to limit the prime minister’s tenure to two terms and separate the roles of the attorney-general and public prosecutor.

Muhyiddin said the agreement aimed to promote political stability and help the government address key issues affecting the people, including the economy and cost of living, while stressing that Bersatu would remain in the opposition.

Meanwhile, Bersatu’s youth wing, Armada Bersatu, said public welfare and the Bumiputera empowerment agenda remained key demands underpinning the party’s decision to sign the agreement.

In a statement, Armada said the arrangement was anchored in four pillars: national interests, public welfare, political stability and the integrity of the Federal Government.

It said stability in domestic governance was essential amid current geo-economic challenges to ensure the welfare of the people, particularly at the grassroots level, remained protected.

Armada also said Bersatu had ensured that the Bumiputera empowerment agenda was substantively included in the agreement.

“This is to ensure that the economic ecosystem, educational equity and socio-economic opportunities for the indigenous population continue to be protected and strengthened comprehensively through federal policies and the party’s demands,” it said.

The youth wing added that the agreement reflected Bersatu’s commitment to institutional reforms, particularly measures to limit the prime minister’s tenure and separate the roles of the attorney-general and public prosecutor.

It said the proposed changes were intended to strengthen transparency in governance, prevent the concentration of power and safeguard judicial independence.

Armada said mature politics must be founded on objective checks and balances, adding that the agreement demonstrated the party’s commitment to prioritising national interests over partisan political manoeuvring.

Fadhlina, meanwhile, said political maturity did not mean setting aside differences or compromising on principles, but finding consensus on matters that would benefit the people.

“For Wanita Keadilan, political maturity does not mean disregarding differences or compromising on principles. We can hold different views while continuing to seek consensus on matters that benefit the people,” she said.

She expressed hope that the understanding would create greater room for the government and lawmakers to focus on national development, particularly the implementation of initiatives outlined in Budget 2027.

“We have outlined many initiatives through Budget 2027. It is our responsibility to ensure that these efforts reach the people and deliver tangible benefits to them,” she said.

Fadhlina added that Malaysia should continue pursuing reforms while remaining steadfast in its principles and the spirit of its political struggle. — October 29, 2026
