COMMUNICATIONS Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has expressed his condolences on the passing of renowned environmental journalist Datuk Karam Singh Walia, who passed away early this morning.
Fahmi said the late journalist's passing left a deep impression not only on the world of journalism, but also on Malaysians who knew him through his informative and dedicated news reporting.
“Anyone who watched TV3’s Bulletin, especially from the 90s to around 2014, will surely be familiar with his appearance, which is synonymous with the pantun that ends each report, a unique identity that remains in the memory of many.
“I am also one of those who faithfully followed his reports, and greatly appreciate his dedication and contribution to the broadcasting world,” he said.
He also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased, including Media Prima’s News and Current Affairs Editor, Jasbant Singh, while emphasising the deceased’s contribution to strengthening the field of broadcasting and environmental reporting in this country.
Karam, who spent 20 years as a broadcast journalist before retiring in 2014 due to health issues, died at his home in Klang at 3.30 am. - April 6, 2026
