KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has offered his condolences to the family of veteran broadcaster Mariamah Tijo, who passed away today at the age of 76.
Fahmi described Mariamah as a legendary figure with a golden voice that generations of Malaysians grew up listening to. He said her long tenure at Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) as a radio announcer and broadcaster, from the 1970s until 2006, was marked by great dedication and service.
“That voice was once our faithful companion,” Fahmi said in a Facebook post. He added that all that remains now are irreplaceable memories.
The minister noted that in 2024, he had presented a donation from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA to Mariamah through her son as a gesture of the government’s support for media veterans. Fahmi concluded his tribute by praying for her soul to be showered with mercy and placed among the faithful.
