LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a local fishing vessel off Kampung Bakapit waters for failing to report change of skipper.

Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Commander Dzulfikhar Ali, said MMEA personnel conducting Ops Pluto Timur and Ops Tiris in the area intercepted the vessel and upon inspection found it failed to comply with the rules requiring it to report any change of skipper.

“MMEA views this non-compliance seriously as it is closely related to navigation safety and control of local fishing activities.

The vessel was brought back to Lahad Datu Fishery jetty and handed over to the Lahad Datu Zone MMEA investigation officer for further action.

The case is being investigated under the Sabah Ports and Harbour Enactment 2002.
