
TAWAU: Police seized two vehicles, including a Fairlady sports car suspected of extensive modifications, during an operation against illegal street racing activities here.
Tawau Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the operation, conducted from 10.30pm Saturday until 2am Sunday, involved Op Samseng Jalanan at T2 Jalan Apas and One Arena Jalan Chong Thien Vun, as well as a roadblock at Batu 2 Jalan Apas.
He said the Fairlady and a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and would be handed over to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for further action under Op Ekstrem targeting extensively modified vehicles.
Rosdi said police inspected 80 vehicles comprising 30 motorcycles, 30 cars, 18 4WD vehicles and two lorries, as well as 64 people, and issued 14 summonses for various traffic offences including missing side mirrors, non-compliant registration plates, modified exhausts, driving without a Class B2 licence and failing to display a “P” plate.
No arrests or untoward incidents were reported during the operation, while Rosdi said enforcement would continue to curb illegal street racing activities and ensure road users complied with traffic laws.
