A joint team of the Health Department and the Drug Control Department busted a fake clinic in the New Palam Vihar area in a special operation last night.
The team raided “Dr Bengali Janta Seva Clinic” in Yadav Market, Sector 110, and arrested a fake doctor red-handed who was putting patients’ lives at risk.
This operation was carried out by a special team, led by District Civil Hospital Medical Officer Dr Om Prakash and Drug Control Officer Dr Suresh Kumar.
According to an official, the department had been receiving anonymous complaints against this clinic for a long time. After verifying the complaint, the team conducted a planned raid on the clinic.
During the raid, a stampede-like situation developed at the scene. The team observed that a person without any qualifications was openly treating patients there.
The arrested accused was identified as Sukumar Biswas, a native of West Bengal. During the investigation, when Health Department and Drug Control officials asked him for his medical degree, registration certificate and drug license, he failed to produce any documents. Furthermore, the clinic did not have a biomedical waste disposal certificate or valid records of the purchase and sale of medicines. Upon closer questioning, the accused confessed that he had been treating patients in the area for the past six years without any legal permission or a medical degree.
Based on a complaint from medical officer Dr Om Prakash, the Bajghera police station registered a case against the accused under various Sections of the Medical Council Act and the Fraud Act.
A senior police officer said they were interrogating the accused to determine if anyone else was involved with him in this illegal business.
