THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) said on Friday that it has conducted a raid on at least five counterfeit vehicle plate shops in Davao City.
“As long as there are those who manufacture and sell fake plates, the LTO’s operations will continue,” LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said.
He said operations zeroed in on five establishments: Pogz Art and Sign, Eschat Art and Sign Tailoring, Sticker Art and Sign, WMT Printing Services and Magnorms Advertising Services.
“We are not merely apprehending those who use counterfeit plates. We are tracking down where they are made and who profits from this illegal trade,” Lacanilao said.
The suspect would be charged with violation of Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code (falsification by private individuals and use of falsified documents), Article 176 (manufacturing and possession of instruments or implements for falsification) and Section 12 of Republic Act 11235, as amended by RA 12209 (Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act).
Lacanilao urged the public to report the illegal manufacturing and selling of counterfeit plates to the LTO via its official Facebook page “I-report mo kay LTO Chief” or its website at https://ireportmokayltochief.ph/.
