SINGAPORE, Aug 13 — A 23-year-old Malaysian man was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint after he was allegedly found carrying counterfeit stamps bearing the emblems of Singapore’s Supreme Court and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), along with fake employee passes.

The man was arrested on Tuesday after Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers directed him to undergo enhanced checks at the checkpoint’s bus arrival hall, police said in a statement on Wednesday, Asia One reported.

Several fake employee passes bearing the man’s photograph were also found in his possession, while investigations showed that he had never worked for any of the organisations named on the passes.

Police said counterfeit passes and official-looking instruments were commonly used by scammers to make their operations appear legitimate and deceive victims into believing they were dealing with authorised representatives.

The man is expected to be charged in court today with making or possessing a counterfeit instrument with intent to commit forgery.

If convicted, he faces up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine.
