KUALA LUMPUR — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has announced that it will take the case involving seven naturalised Harimau Malaya players to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The move comes after FIFA released the full 64-page reasoning behind its Appeal Committee’s decision to reject appeals filed by both FAM and the players.
Speaking to Scoop, FAM acting president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi said the association is initiating CAS proceedings to ensure justice is served and to uphold the integrity of the player eligibility process.
“FAM has received FIFA’s full decision regarding the eligibility of the seven players.
“We will now initiate proceedings before CAS. The association remains committed to defending the rights of all players eligible to represent Malaysia and will act professionally, transparently, and through proper legal channels,” he said when contacted.
The Appeal Committee’s ruling upholds sanctions previously imposed by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, including a fine of 350,000 Swiss francs (RM1.9 million) on FAM.
The seven heritage players were each suspended for 12 months and fined 2,000 Swiss francs (around RM10,000). — November 19, 2025
