A man, Poh Lee Aik, aged 45, faced charges at both the Sessions Court and Magistrates’ Court today after assaulting his mother last week. Pleading not guilty to four counts, including injuring his 69-year-old mother by repeatedly caning her on her head and body, Poh's actions raised serious concerns. The incident occurred at their residence in Taman Lembah Hijau, Lorong Gangsa, around 7 pm on February 13.
In the Sessions Court, Poh was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, coupled with Section 326A, for deliberately causing harm to his mother. Deputy public prosecutor Puteri Nor Nadia Mohamed Iqbal, recognizing the gravity of the offense and the shared residence, opted not to grant bail. Poh, representing himself, sought bail on health grounds, citing high blood pressure and the responsibility of supporting two school-going children in the custody of his ex-wife. Judge Mohammad Khalid, however, denied bail and scheduled a case mention for March 19.
Simultaneously, Poh faced charges at the Magistrates’ Court for the second and third counts, relating to threatening to kill or inflict harm on his mother by repeatedly caning her at the same time, date, and place. Magistrate Siti Nurul Suhaila, allowing bail at RM7,000 with one surety for both charges, set the case mention for March 19. Furthermore, the condition was imposed that Poh must refrain from harassing the victim.
In another Magistrates’ Court session, Poh faced a distinct charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. This charge pertained to administering methamphetamine to himself at 6 am on February 14 at the Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department office in the Timur Laut district police headquarters. Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi set April 24 for the pathology report and granted bail of RM2,000 with one surety.
These legal proceedings highlight the complex nature of the case, with Poh facing charges of physical assault on his mother, making threats, and drug-related offenses. The courts will play a crucial role in determining the appropriate consequences for these alleged actions. The next hearings will provide additional insights into the unfolding legal proceedings and their impact on the individuals involved.
