A famous chilli pan mee restaurant in Balakong was raided by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Kajang after they received some complaints from the public, as reported by Sinar Harian.

According to a post by KPDN, the raid was part of a joint operation with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), revealing that the restaurant is suspected of breaching halal-related regulations.

The owner put up a “Muslim Kitchen” sticker

KPDN explained that the restaurant involved used phrases that gave the impression it was halal, like displaying the “Muslim Kitchen” label.

“My friends and customers asked me to put up the ‘Muslim Kitchen’ sticker,” said the owner.

The restaurant is suspected of violating Order 4(1) of the Trade Descriptions (Halal Definition) Order 2011 and the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 for not having halal certification, which could mislead Muslim customers.

Halal-related violations will be further looked into

KPDN inspections, which included checking price tags and the use of controlled items like cooking oil, sugar, and wheat flour, showed the restaurant follows the required ownership quota for these goods.

However, violations related to the Trade Descriptions (Halal Definition) Order 2011 and Trade Descriptions Act 2011 will be further looked into by JAIS.

“If guilty, a company could face a fine of up to RM5 million, and up to RM10 million for repeat offenses,” they wrote.

KPDN is advising business owners and restaurant operators to avoid using misleading phrases like “halal certified” or displaying halal logos and mosque images without valid certification, as it can mislead customers.
