UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria today held a series of important meetings with the Vice-President and Union Ministers in New Delhi to discuss matters relating to governance, culture, sports and legal infrastructure.

Kataria paid a courtesy call on Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan. During the meeting, he apprised the Vice-President of various development initiatives and administrative priorities pertaining to Punjab and Chandigarh and exchanged views on issues of public importance.

Thereafter, Kataria met Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and sought support for the upgrading of the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Chandigarh under the Museum Grant Scheme of the Ministry of Culture.

The Governor emphasized the need to preserve and modernise the iconic grade-I heritage institution designed by renowned architect Le Corbusier. The proposed project aims to strengthen conservation of its invaluable collections, preserve its architectural heritage and enhance visitor facilities in line with contemporary museum standards.

Recently, MP Manish Tewari had raised the issue of poor condition of the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Sector 10. In a letter to the Administrator, Tewari had pointed out that several display panels had no paintings, photographs, murals or other exhibits on display.

In another meeting, Kataria called on the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, and discussed Chandigarh’s proposals for hosting major international sporting events, including the Asian Relay Championships 2027, the 21st Asian Roller Skating Championships 2027 and the Second International Chandigarh Marathon scheduled for November 2026. He also sought support for the establishment of a state-of-the-art international multi-purpose indoor sports hall at the Sector 42 sports complex.

The Union Sports Minister assured all possible support for strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting sporting excellence in Chandigarh. The Governor also sought support for strengthening sports infrastructure in Punjab.

Later, Kataria met Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal and discussed issues pertaining to the legal fraternity, including the demands raised by the Bar Association of Udaipur. The meeting focussed on measures aimed at strengthening legal and judicial infrastructure and addressing concerns of advocates.
