Deputy Commissioner Sona Thind has directed all departments concerned to intensify efforts to create awareness among farmers about the AgriStack Farmer Registry scheme.
Presiding over a review meeting with officials of the Agriculture Department and other related departments, she said a ‘Farmer ID’ will be essential to avail benefits under the government’s agriculture schemes in the future.
The DC added that every farmer should get registered under the scheme to ensure a seamless access to welfare initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) and other agriculture support programmes.
She instructed the officials to motivate farmers get registered at the earliest, while emphasising that the ‘Farmer ID’ is being issued free of cost.
She urged all farmers in the district to complete their registration either at Agriculture Department’s offices or at their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC). They should carry their Aadhaar card, Aadhaar-linked mobile number and land records (Jamabandi) so that the process can be completed smoothly, she added.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Jagdev Singh said around 38,000 farmers in the district have to be registered under the scheme. So far, nearly 6,900 farmers have completed their ‘Farmer ID’ registration, he added.
He said the ‘Farmer ID’ initiative will help create a comprehensive digital database of farmers, ensuring transparent delivery of benefits, quicker access to government services and better planning of agriculture development programmes.
