Mayor Praveen Popli informed that the state government has announced a 100 per cent waiver on interest for pending property tax dues as a one-time payment of outstanding property tax from 2010-11 to 2024-25.

Presiding over the meeting held in the Municipal Corporation here today, Popli informed that the last date to avail of the scheme is June 30.

He directed MC officials to ensure a hassle-free and convenient system of payment of property tax, which can be paid in both online mode as well as the offline system in the MC office. He informed that online payments can be made through the Urban Local Bodies Department portal. He said that people who opt for online mode need not visit the MC office for online payment and also offered a one per cent extra rebate on online payments.

The Mayor warned that negligence on the part of the MC officials in availing services to the residents would invite action. He informed that keeping in view the expected rush due to the interest waiver scheme, the Municipal Corporation will increase cash counters for tax collection from one to four. Two separate counters will also be set up for issuing bill copies. Arrangements for seating and drinking water will also be made to ensure convenience for residents, he informed.

Appealing to residents, Mayor Praveen Popli urged citizens to pay property tax online to avail of the additional 1 per cent rebate and avoid visiting the Municipal Corporation office.
