FAST Logistics, Buskowitz Energy ink power deal

FAST Logistics Group said Friday that it had has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with Buskowitz Energy to expand renewable energy use at the FAST Cold Chain Hub in Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu.

Under the agreement, Buskowitz Energy will install and oversee a 779.96-kilowatt-peak (kWp) grid-tied rooftop solar photovoltaic system at the FAST facility.

FAST plans to install about 1,300 solar panels across 4,500 square meters of rooftop space.

The solar power system will also include a 24/7 online monitoring platform, allowing FAST to track actual solar energy generation and assess the project's contribution to its sustainability goals.

The system will produce about 1.23 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable electricity in its first year of operation, meeting up to 35 percent of the facility's electricity needs.

Buskowitz Energy, meanwhile, will lead the project's installation and asset management, allowing FAST to expand its use of renewable energy without directly owning and running the solar assets.

The company said this is a significant milestone for an energy-intensive cold-chain operation that needs constant refrigeration to safeguard temperature-sensitive products.

As the first Filipino-owned logistics company to publicly pledge to achieve Net Zero by 2050, FAST intends to lessen its dependence on traditional grid electricity and cut its carbon emissions.

FAST Cold Chain Hub Cebu provides logistics and temperature-controlled warehousing services to companies throughout the Visayas.

There are 10,500 pallet positions at the facility, which opened in 2021.

FAST serves many industries, including food and beverage, fresh meat processing, and fruit and vegetable distribution.

In addition, the company handles vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and quick-service restaurants.

Its flexible cold chain solutions also provide local farmers and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with plug-and-play access to temperature-controlled storage.
