Kelantan police seize RM120,000 in cannabis and nearly RM1 million in assets from a father-son duo using a fruit stall and insurance business as a front for courier-based drug trafficking.

KOTA BHARU: A father and son have been arrested for allegedly using courier services to traffic drugs from their business premises in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the duo were apprehended during a raid on their fruit stall and vehicle insurance outlet in Kampung Banggol Kulim last Saturday.

Authorities discovered and seized 40 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis, valued at approximately RM120,000, concealed at the rear of the premises.

“The activity is believed to have been carried out under the guise of their businesses,” Mohd Yusoff stated at a press conference.

He explained that the 45-year-old father allegedly acted as the coordinator while his 25-year-old son served as a runner delivering drug supplies via courier services.

The drug supply was believed to be destined for the domestic market, particularly the west coast, as well as for overseas distribution.

Police also sealed the business premises and confiscated a Proton X50 car, a motorcycle, RM184,800 in cash, and various jewellery.

The total value of the seizures, including the drugs, amounts to nearly RM1 million.

Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until this Saturday to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
