POLICE in Kelantan have dismantled two drug trafficking operations involving the use of courier services and front businesses, with more than 250 kilogrammes of cannabis seized in separate raids in Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas.
In the first operation, authorities uncovered a family-run syndicate operating out of a premises in Kampung Banggol Kulim, Rantau Panjang, which doubled as a courier service, fruit shop and vehicle insurance outlet.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said a 40-year-old man and his 25-year-old son were arrested during a raid at about 1pm on Saturday.
“Following an inspection at the premises, police discovered a package at the rear of the building containing 40kg of dried plant material believed to be cannabis, valued at RM120,000.
“Preliminary investigations found that the 40-year-old suspect acted as the coordinator, while his son served as the ‘runner’ (courier).
“They are believed to have distributed the drug supply using courier services, and the premises belonged to them.
“In addition to offering courier services, the premises also sold vehicle insurance for travel to Thailand as well as fruits,” he said after attending a monthly assembly at the Kelantan police headquarters.
He added that the drugs were believed to be intended for both domestic and international markets.
Police also seized the premises, a vehicle, a motorcycle, RM184,800 in cash and jewellery, bringing the total value of the confiscated items, including the drugs, to nearly RM1 million.
“The father and son have been remanded for seven days until this Saturday, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“The amount of drugs seized could potentially harm more than 80,000 drug users,” he said.
In a separate case in Pasir Mas, the General Operations Force intercepted a suspected drug trafficker after a high-speed chase covering nearly 10 kilometres in Kampung Kubang Puyu Meranti on Monday night.
Southeast Brigade commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the arrest was made at about 8.30pm during Op Taring Wawasan.
“We attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect sped off, prompting a chase of nearly 10 kilometres before he was apprehended.
“An inspection of the vehicle driven by the suspect uncovered several brown boxes containing 210kg of dried plant material believed to be cannabis,” he said.
The suspect, a 35-year-old man, was detained and the seized items were handed over to the Pasir Mas district police headquarters for further action.
Both cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.- April 14, 2026
