kota kinabalu: A 42-year-old father was sentenced to 13 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here after admitting to cheating a man of RM12,300 in a car sale.
Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin imposed the sentence on Sang Fazar Bunjing Diamson, who broke down in tears while appealing for leniency during mitigation.
Sang told the court that his family faced financial difficulties during the Covid-19 pandemic and that he regretted his actions, asking for another chance to fulfil his responsibilities as a father.
He had deceived the victim into purchasing a gold-coloured Proton Saga FLX for RM12,300 in cash at Kampung Air on March 20, 2022.
The victim later discovered that the vehicle had outstanding loan payments after two men, including its registered owner, approached him at Inanam Terminal and informed him that it had to be repossessed.
The court ordered the jail term to take effect from Aug 15 this year, when Sang was rearrested.
