THE methadone liquid consumed by an 11-year-old child who died in an incident in Sungai Ramal, last Wednesday, was confirmed to be medication belonging to the victim's father.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the medication was used by the suspect for treatment purposes and was obtained from a legitimate source.

"Regarding the case in Kajang (methadone) involving a child, the investigation so far shows that there is no element of criminal intent and more of negligence.

"The medication belonged to the child's father for treatment purposes, and it is believed that negligence occurred during use," he said.

According to him, the two siblings of the victim are currently still being treated in hospital and are showing positive development, while their parents have been granted police bail while the investigation is completed.

Following this, both parents of the children involved were remanded by the police to assist in the investigation under Section 31(1)(A) of the Children Act 2001. – February 14, 2026
