A pall of gloom descended on Seeto Guno village in Fazilka district after a 20-year-old youth allegedly died by suicide after hanging himself in a room today.

The deceased, identified as Rahul, was reportedly under stress after failing to perform well in a competitive examination, which is believed to have led him to take the tragic step. The only brother of three sisters was a son of a juice vendor.

Ravinder Kumar, SHO of Bahaw Wala police station, told The Tribune that Rahul had passed Class 12 and had recently appeared in a competitive examination in Bathinda but was unable to clear it.

According to relatives, Rahul returned home from a library on Thursday and went to his room to rest. After some time, his sister entered the room and found him hanging. He was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The SHO said the body has been kept in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital, Abohar, and the post-mortem examination will be conducted on Friday. He added that no foul play has been suspected.
