A FEMALE e-hailing driver faced am intense moment when a passenger suddenly gave birth in her vehicle this morning.

In the 7.30am incident in Bandar Letat, Sabah, Norwin Mohamad, 39, who had only been driving for a year, was waiting for a passenger, before being approached by several individuals who were carrying a woman about to give birth.

Recounting the incident, Norwin said that while on the way to the Duchess of Kent Hospital, the woman who was in her 20s, gave birth, causing other passengers, including the woman's husband and father, to panic.

She said that since she was married and had five children, she did not feel that nervous about the situation, instead asked them to calm down and continued driving.

"I just felt sorry for the baby because as soon as it was delivered by a woman whom I believe was the 'village midwife', the baby didn't cry.

"I didn't have time to get their information. As soon as I sent them to the hospital, I took the car to be washed. I hope the baby is okay," she told Harian Metro.

Norwin said she also did not ask for any payment from the passengers because she understood their situation, besides feeling sorry when she saw the woman's husband taking off his shirt to wipe the blood that covered the surface of the seat.

She said the woman's father and husband also repeatedly apologized because of the mess left on the seat.

"I said it was okay and also didn't expect that after uploading the picture on social media, several car wash centers contacted me and offered to help wash the car for free.

"They said they wanted to help because I had helped others," she said.

Norwin said she understood that the woman had been having contractions since 3 am but was not taken to the hospital earlier because they were believed to be foreigners. - December 1, 2025
