Barcelona playmaker Fermin Lopez has undergone successful surgery on a broken metatarsal.
The club have not put a timescale on his recovery or said whether he still has a chance of featuring at the World Cup.
Spain are due to name their squad on Monday for the upcoming tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Lopez was injured in the champions' 3-1 LaLiga victory over Real Betis on Sunday.
A statement from the club read: "First-team player Fermin Lopez underwent a successful operation of the fifth metatarsal fracture on his right foot.
"His recovery time will be based on his progress."
