Fernando Mendoza has addressed speculation linking him to the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 1 overall pick.
The Raiders hold the top selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, placing the spotlight firmly on the consensus top quarterback prospect.
With Tom Brady a minority owner of the franchise, the possibility of Mendoza landing in Las Vegas has generated significant attention. The quarterback, however, is keeping his focus broad.

Fernando Mendoza responds to No. 1 pick speculation
Speaking to ESPN, Fernando Mendoza said: “Well, the pick has not been selected yet. Whatever team drafts me, I’m extremely grateful.
“Whether it’s the No. 1 pick or the last pick in the draft, I’d be blessed and honored to be drafted by any team and give them my all.”
The measured response avoided assumptions about the Raiders’ intentions.
Despite widespread projections placing him at the top of draft boards, Mendoza emphasised gratitude over entitlement.
Fernando Mendoza reflects on meeting with the Las Vegas Raiders
Fernando Mendoza also detailed his pre-draft interaction with the franchise, saying: “It was a fantastic interview. The coaching staff was in there. We went over some of my previous plays, drew some plays on the board.”
Mendoza concluded, stating: “I thought it was a great meeting, and I know they have the prospective No. 1 pick, but anything can happen in the draft.
“I’m just excited for the opportunity. Whatever team drafts me, I’m just going to give everything I have to them.”
The comments suggest a productive evaluation process, with film study and whiteboard sessions forming part of the discussion. Whether the Raiders ultimately use the top selection on Mendoza remains to be seen.
For now, the quarterback’s stance is clear. Draft position matters less than the opportunity to compete and contribute.
