FEU Manila completes clean power transition

FAR Eastern University (FEU) Manila has completed its transition to renewable electricity across all eligible accounts on its main campus, the listed educational institution said on Friday.

The shift was completed with the recent inclusion of the FEU Manila gymnasium to the university’s renewable energy portfolio.

The transition was implemented across the Manila campus through the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program, which allows eligible consumers to choose renewable energy as their power source.

With the completion, FEU Manila’s classrooms, laboratories, libraries, offices, student service areas and other facilities are now powered by clean electricity.

As of April 2025, renewable sources supplied 98.3 percent of the total power requirement across the entire FEU Group.

FEU Alabang achieved 100-percent renewable energy in December 2024, four years ahead of its 2028 completion goal. Its Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies certification shows that the building uses 30-percent less resources compared to a conventional building.

FEU started its shift to renewable in 2017 through the Retail Competition and Open Access Program. The shift initially covered 1,300 kilowatts of its electricity supply, increasing to 2,550 kilowatts by 2024 as the university expanded its renewable energy arrangements across its campuses.

Aside from supply agreements, FEU also invested in on-site solar generation. In 2024, FEU expanded its on-site solar capacity by 369.37 percent to a peak of 468.9 kilowatts, with installations at FEU Roosevelt Rodriguez, FEU Roosevelt Marikina and FEU Cavite.

FEU Chief Financial Officer Rosanna Salcedo said achieving 100-percent renewable electricity in their Manila campus reflects their years of strategic investments in the necessary infrastructure and their commitment to good governance, environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

“This milestone demonstrates that sustainability is not only something we teach but something we deliberately integrate into the way we operate as an institution,” she added.

Far Eastern University Inc. shares last traded at P790.00 each on Thursday.
