FIFA accused of ‘artificially inflating prices’ of World Cup tickets

  • FIFA's ticketing practices for the 2026 World Cup are under investigation by chief legal officers in the United States.
  • The Attorneys General of New York and New Jersey have subpoenaed FIFA over allegations of “artificially inflating prices” and “misleading fans”.
  • Concerns include supporters being misled about seat locations and the creation of more expensive “front” category tickets after initial sales.
  • It is also alleged that variable pricing led to an average 34 per cent price increase for approximately 90 of the 104 fixtures.
  • The investigation aims to protect consumers and ensure fair ticket sales for the World Cup, with FIFA declining to comment on the matter.
