Fifa slammed for firing top official who spoke out against Gianni Infantino

  • Kevin Lamour has left his role as Fifa's chief operating officer shortly after publicly criticising president Gianni Infantino's controversial plans to sell off commercial stakes in the World Cup.
  • Prior to his departure, Lamour accused the leadership of subjecting staff to “contempt and intimidation”, stating he was prepared to lose his job for speaking out against the project.
  • Fifa confirmed that the working relationship with Lamour had ended after two years, with secretary general Mattias Grafstrom informing staff of his exit following a final meeting.
  • Lise Klaveness, head of the Football Association of Norway, accused Fifa of “management by fear”, claiming Lamour was effectively fired for standing up to Infantino as she labelled his sacking “unacceptable”.
  • Klaveness praised Lamour for his intervention, noting that his candid statement from within the organisation was essential in successfully halting the commercial project.
